The Origin of Greenville Alumni
The Greenville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was the crystalization of a continuing dream. A vision shared commonly by our honorable founders.
For it was during the early 1950's with the organization of young active chapters like Gamma Pi (Alcorn State University), Gamma Rho (Tougaloo College), and Delta Delta (Jackson State University), that young Kappa men upon graduation returned to the Mississippi Delta to sow the seed of a fraternal tree. With Dr. Obei White of Little Rock Arkansas as province polemarch. The Greenville Alumni Chapter was organized in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles E. Holmes. Where our annual Valentine's Day dinner is held to date. The Greenville Alumni Chapter was charted February 14, 1954, amidst the stormy climate of the trubulent 50's.
Most of the leadership for the Greenville Alumni Chapter came out of Pi chapter, Moorehouse in Atlanta. G.P. Maddox of Greenville, and B.L. Bell of Cleveland were graduates of Moorehouse with B.L. Bell becoming the first polemarch of the Greenville Alumni Chapter.
The chapter members were: G.P. Maddox, B.L. Bell, and Dr. Charles Holmes, all initial members of Jackson Alumni. Other chartering members were Ray Brooks, A.C. Isaac, Arthur Peyton, Robert Hall, Dr. Henry St. Hille and Sunny Kyles.
The Greenville Alumni Chapter continued to florish and grow, through the years with silhouettes being a constant source of support.
During the early 1980's the Greenville Alumni Chapter sought ways to acknowledge brothers within the chapter for his individual achievement in his own particular endeavor. The chapter established five distinguished awards: The B.L. Bell Service Award for outstanding service to the community. The G.P. Maddox Educational Achievement Award, the C.E. Holmes Professional Achievement Award. The A.C. Isaac Award for service to the fraternity, and the Polemarch Award, an award of brotherhood.
Also, in its efforts to expand its services to the community the Greenville Alumni Chapter has sponsored football bowl games, all-star basketball games, Miss Kappa Alpha Psi pageants, scholarships to both males and females, and has been a source of inspiration to the Mississippi Delta at large.
